Duomo di Milano, Milan, Italy
Duomo di Milano, Milan, Italy
The majestic Duomo to Milan,
Like Notre-Dame to Paris,
It is their pride,
Oh! It’s gothic structure.
The grand arches,
The magnificent roof,
A forest of pinnacles and spires,
Lost in a world of splendor and glory.
Six centuries it took,
The exalted figure,
Golden Mary protects Milan,
Oh! Her golden grace.
Higher than everything else,
Once a Bach entered Duomo,
He fell in love with its harmony,
Oh! His melodious symphonies.
Enriched patriarchs and martyrs,
What they did not for Italy,
Sculpted onto history,
In golden words and diamond shrines.
But which mind was it that dreamt it into existence
Surely it couldn't be human, could it?
It must have been the eye of God that fashioned it
Or perhaps it was a dream of the Holy Mother herself.
